My name is Monika Valeva. Professionaly, my life is a connected to the pedagogics, economy and tourism. Emotionally... with the bulgarian folklore.
My love about our folklore I have succeeded from my father and his family. As a child we often went to some 3-days church
fairs like the ones at "The Karakolio holes", to the folk singing and dance competitions, as well as to the "nestinari" feasts.
Of course, I have fun memories about some "brave" fellow countrymen and tourists, who after certain quantity of alcohol gained all of a sudden
the courage and rushed to the live coals or went to fight the bears. As we all know, you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
Otherwise, we all would be "nestinari" or wrestlers. In my subsequent years I collected authentic songs and information about
different folk traditions. It is strange that even for a moment it didn't come to my mind to start dancing in a dance group untill
I came to Canada. My love about Bulgaria and our incredible folklore turned by itself in a desire to dance. In the folk dance
 group "Balgari" I am from the moment of it's foundation. From the rehearsals to the concerts, the feeling is unbelievable.
I wish everyone of you could feel it. Feel that magic, which our predecessors weaved into every single step of our dances,
into every note which makes the music unique. Now I know that wherever I would be, the Bulgarian folk dance will be part of my life!
